Windswept Doves and Hearts III

Windswept Doves and Hearts III
© 2011
acrylic on panel

I am exhausted, but I wanted to post my newest painting before too much time went by.

I have done a lot of oil painting, but I do not have a lot of experience with acrylics aside from folk art paints. And I have a new found love! I have had my oil paints out in my studio for a whole year and as I was working on other projects, I just couldn't bring myself to pick them up and use them. I just didn't want to deal with turpentine. So, one day while I was out, I bought some artists' acrylics. Fast drying time. Yippie! Brilliant colors! Yippie! And most of all, no turpentine! Yippie!

This is part of a series. You can find the first Windswept Doves and Hearts HERE and Windswept Doves and Hearts II HERE.

I don't have it for sale on-line yet, but I may at some point. Look for the edit on this page for the listing on Etsy or Artfire or e-mail me in the meantime through my website if you are interested.

Finally, back to my own art!

This is fourth in the series of winswept doves and hearts. You can see version one HERE, version two HERE and version three HERE.

I don't have it for sale anywhere yet because I have to find a frame for it. If you are interested, e-mail me (or check back here for the edit on this page to see if I do have it for sale anywhere) or look in my online shops (Etsy shop or Artfire shop) to see if it is listed.

Windswept Doves Trinket Box

Windswept Dove Trinket Box
hand painted box for jewelry, trinkets or keepsakes
© 2012
available in my Artfire on-line shop HERE
may also be available in the folk art section in my Etsy shop HERE
(part of the "Windswept Doves series" - the rest of the series is view-able HERE)

I painted this box in the winter of 2012. The top is painted with artist grade archival acrylic paints and the part that is alazarin crimson (i.e. the rest of it) is painted with folk art paints.

Since I had so many wall paintings in this style and subject matter, I wanted to try a painting on a box too.

Here is a view of the top:

Hurricane of Doves and Hearts

Hurricane of Doves and Hearts
© 2011
inks on Arches watercolor paper
(copyright watermark does not appear in actual painting)

I was originally going to name this piece Windswept Doves and Hearts V (to be part of the series), but it seemed to have a lot more energy than all of the other previous paintings. Since Hurricane Irene is on its way, I thought this title was also more appropriate.

Painting with inks almost makes this psychedelic. The others had watercolor or acrylic.

I look at these paintings as diversions. I seem to be drawn to the subject matter when I can't have full concentration powers. They are my version of meditation paintings, I suppose.

I don't have this one for sale anywhere yet because I've been having trouble uploading images (computer problems and file corruption). I will edit this page as it becomes available to buy.

Here is the simple line drawing before adding color:

Windswept Doves and Hearts

This painting is a miniature 3" x 4.85" watercolor and ink. It belongs to a series of pieces I have been making which feature doves including Angel Patrice of Peace, Menorrah and Doves, Pull Me to the Sky, Portal and others. It is available in my ETSY SHOP.

This is a much more comfortable size for me to paint than the aceo (2.5" x 3.5"), but I haven't given up on the aceo. I hope to tackle another one soon!

I recently learned about the OSWOA size (4" x 6"). But the OSWOA must be an original work of art, unlike the aceo. So, I painted another tree with knotted roots and that is also up in my etsy store if you want to take a look. I like the one I posted here a bit more than that one (personal preference). I would have made this painting conform to the OSWOA, but I wanted to leave a white border for framing (I was stuck with the 4" x 6" paper size).

It has been an unusually hot summer here in the north country with a lot of time weeding in the garden (I grow a lot of my own food to insure that it does not have pesticides). There is no air conditioning where I do my art and music, so I am taking a respite from big ambitious projects and painting miniatures and teeshirts and practicing only the music that I know well for awhile.

The teeshirts aren't available on-line, but if you are in the area, I have them up for sale at Valley Artisans Market in Cambridge, NY. There are also other artists who have teeshirts available at the same shop.

White Feather original painting & print

White Feather original watercolor and ink
7" x 9"

This is part of the Windswept Doves series. I had a bad flu all last week and this is what I worked on while I was in bed. I always come back to the theme of doves or angels when I'm down. It was slow going because I was mostly sleeping.

When I scanned it in yesterday, it seemed bright, psychedelic and almost neon. I tried different approaches in the computer and came up with this one for a limited edition giclee print:

White Feather limited edition giclee prints
7" x 9"

I have it listed in 2 online shops: Etsy and Artfire (yes, I am presently opening another on-line shop-- more about that later, though I did notice that the one at Etsy presently has 0 views and the one on Artfire has 7 views and they were both put online at the same time... hmmm...).

windswept hearts, stars and doves

Windswept Hearts, Stars and Doves
watercolor and ink
© 2012

I started this before Christmas and finished it today. The original is 11" x 14" and part of a series. This one is the largest in the series. The rest of them can be found here. I am trying this piece out in my Etsy shop as a print for awhile, though I do think the originals (and even the prints) will do better in a walk-in kind of gallery. It's hard to see the piece for what it really is on a screen.

Windswept Doves and Hearts II

I thought I'd give another one a try using different colored watercolor paints. This one is 3" x 5" (and is on Arches Watercolor paper like the last one).

This will probably be my last in the series as I've run out of this size paper. It is available right now in my Etsy shop, though if it doesn't sell, I may be bringing this to a gallery.

Here is the preliminary (I draw it out lightly in pencil & ink, then add the watercolors):
