Keeping up with the direction of my newest body of work is this piece, called "Streak". Actually the horse's name is Streak. He is leaping through the night sky.

I would categorize this piece as storybook art.

Symbolic meanings in the piece:

* horse: balance of wisdom and power
* white horse: transformation, beginning and ending, freedom without restraint, purity, sometimes a sign of wealth and prosperity
* white heart: purity in love
* stars: inspiration, intuition, dreams
* vines: the eternal, infinity

I have archival prints and products available for sale in this design HERE. The original, at the time of this writing, is also available for sale. I have it in a local gallery at the moment, framed in white with a vanilla colored mat. This piece is brand-spanking new. It is actually a "digitized piece" that I worked on for a long time. It originated from this piece. It has a different kind of heart around it, plus it has the deep red vine border design. The eye color of the unicorn is also green and the hummingbird has a bit more green in it than red.

In my store, you'll notice that you can customize, and that there are other products than just prints. Following are just a few customization options, and how to do it. 

Here are some framing possibilities:

This one is with the art work size set at 20" x 24"

(the 20" x 24" is a large size, so go smaller if you'd like):

This is a copper frame with a "manor white" matte

Here is how to do it:

On the right, click on prints, and then find framed prints.

Alternatively, go HERE where the framed prints are

click the arrow where it says framed prints on the right hand side

Then you'll see a tab come up just underneath it

You'll see a bunch of tabs running underneath the "framed prints" 

(and underneath the tab, you'll see the framing possibilities --

note: the frame defaults to a black frame -- yuck, but you can change that)

Anyway, up where the tabs are, click on 1. for the size print you want.

Then click on 2. for the frame.

You'll notice right before all the little square pictures of frames, you can choose a frame color.

This one is in the copper section (click on VN4 on the top row).

Then click on 3. for a mat color

This one is "manor white" which is the fourth one in at the top.

Then click on 4. 

I usually go for the Somerset Velvet. It has the best picture quality for my taste,

but if you want to save money and it is going in an area where sun will hit it part of the day,

or in a bedroom, then the archival matte paper is fine.

Here is another possibility:

note: some of the frames have a mixture;

There are also greeting cards in this design, but I don't think I need to show them. They run $5 for an individual card or $45 for 25 cards ($1.80 each). 

$1.80 each is definitely a good price if you have a store you are selling out of, or if you are an individual doing bulk mailing.

Sometimes I like to ask myself, with each new design that I put out, would I buy this design? The answer is yes. In fact, the duvet cover would look great in our new place and it will probably go there. Not every design looks good on a duvet cover, but that one does: it is the right kind of dimensions to fit the kind of space the duvet cover allows. My second choice would be the pillow in the dark red version.

It has been exciting opening a new on-line store. There are many more designs to come, but the process of listing is laborious, as you can imagine.

As we get close to Valentine's Day, what kind of relationship do you have?

Apologies to my readers for having gone missing for eight months. I have been at work on an intense art project, of which these two artworks are a very small part of it. I haven't been making any fantasy/Celtic/Renaissance related art, so I decided not to post here until I got back on track (which I thought would happen sooner than it has). The lovey-dovey couple above is the only piece that even comes close to fantasy art (the kind of art I have been known for in the last couple of decades) -- and that is even more of a cartoon than anything I have posted on this blog so far.

There are still angels in my latest line of work if only hidden to get a broader message out. Perhaps I will reveal what that message is at some point, but for now, I wish all of my readers a happy Valentine's Day and remember what makes a relationship grow and prosper: mutual respect, having an equal voice, companionship, compassion, empathy, devotion and honesty.

Background on these pieces:

- This is part of a series featuring a Renaissance style unicorn with millefleurs . It is inspired by The Lady and the Unicorn Renaissance tapestries (viewable HERE from wikipedia). The whole series of this kind of work can be found HERE (read from bottom to top to see the first to latest in the series). This is the third in the series, although I made a birthday card years ago in the same kind of vein (still unpublished).

- Painted around Valentines Day in 2013 (greeting cards can be used for Valentines Day for the unicorn lover).

Back from the land of the flu... 

I have always enjoyed designing hearts. Perhaps it is because of the symmetry. They are almost like faces in that way, yes?

If you haven't been following along, many of these trinket boxes were painted during my "paint everything in sight phase" of the winter of 2011. This was when I first acquired a real studio with running water and space.   The rest of the series is view-able HERE. 

And because of my procrastination and having too many creative irons in the fire, it took me this long to post them. Better late than never, right?

This one was the second in the series after the treble clef box. I think Valentines Day was in the Que in terms of "next holiday"...

Okay, back to greeting card designs! I've been designing many of them for Halloween and Autumn and will be listing the others soon.

This was the first design after coming off of pure painting fun in August (whatever painting I could fit in around the busy schedule of keeping shops stocked, a seconds sale, going to Celtic music sessions, home improvements and making a tote bag design, etc.).

I am exhausted, but I wanted to post my newest painting before too much time went by.

I have done a lot of oil painting, but I do not have a lot of experience with acrylics aside from folk art paints. And I have a new found love! I have had my oil paints out in my studio for a whole year and as I was working on other projects, I just couldn't bring myself to pick them up and use them. I just didn't want to deal with turpentine. So, one day while I was out, I bought some artists' acrylics. Fast drying time. Yippie! Brilliant colors! Yippie! And most of all, no turpentine! Yippie!

I can't resist telling you about this! Remember I had done a satire piece about Etsy called "Etsy Deluge" (complete with owl, cowl, mustache and the kinds of clouds that Etsy loves)? If not, here it is again (this was the blog post about it if you want to delve further):

Well, after I posted it, ArtdeJoie told me she was working on her own satire piece. It is called, Hipster Jury. Here it is:

It is modeled from the Henri Gervex painting, "Salon Jury".

In the 1800s in Paris during a time when Impressionism was in full swing, the all-powerful Paris Salon, which put on the premier exhibits of its day, rejected Impressionist works (the ones we so admire today) and tilted their curation unfairly towards certain kinds of painting styles, defined as Academic.

In ArtdeJoie's painting, the artists who get preferential treatment are not based on merit or formal fine art training, but upon subject matter: the owl, fox, mustache and cupcake. Further promotion is granted based on hearts, tweet frequency, popularity, networking circles and conformity to hipster tastes.

Indeed, in a recent Etsy Success Writing Workshop on Etsy's website, mtraub says, "Your MFA and press mentions are all well and good, but I'm far more persuaded to buy your resin sculpture because of your weekend zydeco band and passion for coleslaw."  

Really?

Anyway, I admire ArtdeJoie and her "Hipster Jury" painting.

new heart designs for love (or Valentines Day), 2011

I have a pretty extensive catalog of heart designs which goes back to 1999. I usually do well with these designs on cards in brick and mortar stores around Valentines Day. Perhaps some people like them because they aren't corny & they aren't what the usual fare is in greeting card shops or grocery stores.

Windswept Doves and Hearts II

I thought I'd give another one a try using different colored watercolor paints. This one is 3" x 5" (and is on Arches Watercolor paper like the last one).

This will probably be my last in the series as I've run out of this size paper. It is available right now in my Etsy shop, though if it doesn't sell, I may be bringing this to a gallery.

Here is the preliminary (I draw it out lightly in pencil & ink, then add the watercolors):

Autumn Tree with Knotted Roots and Knotted Border and Tree with Heart

This is the latest in the series of Celtic inspired art (particularly knotted trees with knotted borders). The Spring version is on this blog post.

At present, I have this up in my Etsy store as archival limited edition prints, but I will probably add greeting cards and tags in this design at some point. (edit on 12/16/11: it is also available through my Artfire on-line store where you don't have to be a member to buy and where I presently have the largest selection of my art).

The next piece is an original painting which is also presently for sale on Etsy. It is almost ACEO size (just a half inch wider in both directions). Which means: it is a 3" by 4" painting. It looks much better in real life (it has a crispness that you just can't get with a monitor).

 

Oh, yes, I am also in an Etsy treasury celebrating May Babies (of which I am one... or used to be when I was younger!). The treasury was curated by DiemDesignsJewelry.
