new direction and the last unicorn

"September Unicorn"
© 2017
for sale here as an art print
if you are interested in purchasing the original, contact me via sales(att)LiseWinne.com
It is a 5 x 7 in an 8 x 10 gold frame
(symbolism for the piece is at the end of the post)

I have some big news to tell (on all fronts, including my music), but there are still some fantasy art pieces I am still listing in my shop.

So I will take some time to list them here before revealing my new direction and, for all intents and purposes, "my new life."

The "September Unicorn" original is available at a gallery at the moment. I can always take it out if you are interested in purchasing it. Contact me if you are interested: sales((att))LiseWinne.com.

Here is what the prints of it look like framed and on various products:

framed prints are available HERE
using the drop-down on that page to the right, this is a GG8 frame (in the copper bronze section)
and a manor white mat

If you like a little more bulk and detail to your frame,
here is one I found that is also in the drop-down:
in the drop down on THIS PAGE
go to the tabs "frame" and in the drop-down choose gold
it is VN5 with a mist mat

If you like your piece more "airy and light", here is another kind of frame:
in the drop down on THIS PAGE
go to the tabs "frame" and in the drop-down choose gold
it is J7 with a bright white mat

Here is what it looks like as a pillow
pillows are available for sale HERE
you can customize colors
the default color here is black

This is what it looks like as a tote bag:
tote bags available for sale HERE
you can customize background colors for this too

This is what it looks like as a mug (I put in stars on this rendition):

you can order small or large
(note: there is an image on two sides of this mug)

As for symbolism:

I have noticed that when talking to clients, they identify with the symbolic meanings as describing themselves. What a great discovery! I will describe what that means, but first, the symbolism itself:

unicorn: purity, innocence, spiritual messages, enlightenment, magic. The unicorn has been known to be an independent creature of high intelligence who swoons at the sight of a fair maiden who is pure of heart, and to even fall asleep in her lap. The unicorn's horn has been known to purify water. The unicorn was described during Renaissance times as an extremely wild woodland animal that was independent and could not be tamed.

full moon: the feminine, peak of clarity in a subtle way, reflection on events, insight from dreams

vines: continuity, tradition, eternity (note here that the vines are going dormant)

I often find that a client who is attracted to this piece enough to purchase it is usually a woman who is independent and of high intelligence, cannot be tamed, feels an attraction to the occupation of healing, is perceptive, and who likes the company of other beautiful women like herself who are pure of heart. She is likely to be against the DAPL pipeline or other causes where pollution of water is an issue. She is reflective and clarifies matters for others in a non-ostentatious way, gets insight and creative ideas from dreams, and may respect tradition even if it might be going dormant within her soul for a time (or she may be breaking with tradition altogether depending on whether she wants to cycle back into the traditions prevalent in her life).

3 Autumn Trees in the Circle of Life

3 Autumn Trees in the Circle of Life
© Lise Winne (all elements including the Celtic knot)
available in my Artfire shop as a greeting card set HERE
may also be available in my Etsy shop in season

I had these greeting cards out in brick and mortar stores in the autumn; it is now December and I just got them listed on-line. Better late than never!

This is my attempt at a Celtic knot. More of my attempts can be viewed HERE. I like incorporating a bit of painterly aspects to the general knot (i.e., not just line drawings filled in with color).

Can be used for Samhain or someone born in the Autumn.

I also made some round tags with this design. More soon (I hope).

Autumn Tree of Life

Autumn Tree of Life
© 2012
available HERE as a greeting card
may also be available in my Etsy shop

In celebration of Samhain, Lughnasadh, harvest, autumn equinox, fall, Halloween, Celtic knots and trees (as well as tree huggers!).

The design is my own (including the knotted border, tree and cloudy sky).

I just finished this piece just yesterday. It was a miracle to get anything like this done since this year has been the most crisis ridden year of my life with barely enough time to catch my breath between unexpected (and emotionally catastrophic) events.

Maple Witch

Maple Witch
© 2011

If you've been following me from my previous post, my intention is to produce more statement-oriented work in the future.

But in the meantime, I have "Maple Witch" to show you which is in my usual line of art work. She is part of a series of witches that fly through the sky with the autumn leaves. (The last one I made was "Oak Witch" which can be found on this blog post).

She is for sale in my Artfire shop year round as a greeting card (and possibly as a print in the near future) and in my Etsy shop during the Autumn months and in all of the usual brick and mortar stores listed on my website.

greeting cards or prints
original artwork is 11" x 15.5"

Okay, back to greeting card designs! I've been designing many of them for Halloween and Autumn and will be listing the others soon.

This was the first design after coming off of pure painting fun in August (whatever painting I could fit in around the busy schedule of keeping shops stocked, a seconds sale, going to Celtic music sessions, home improvements and making a tote bag design, etc.).

I have this one available in my Artfire shop. I will also have it for sale in Autumn in my Etsy shop. And of course, I'll have it available at my usual brick and mortar shops in my area in the next couple of weeks.

another detail:

Did you notice the play on the name?

This is one of the more bizarre art pieces I've made (ever). It is certainly one of the most bizarre faeries I have made! But, occassionally I am inspired to create something weird.

I presently have it for sale though this link in my Artfire shop. I also put it up in my Etsy shop (for at least 4 months) -- thought it might be fitting for their Keep It Weird series.

Oak Leaf with Acorn Border art tags

note: copyright watermarks do not appear in actual tags

I finally got around to making my last design (as seen in this blog) into art tags inbetween another bout of putting food by for the winter and another huge harvest of squash. Squash is everywhere!

Perhaps I need to start painting some of it.

The tags are available in ye olde on-line store and some of the local shops in my area (edited on 12/16/11 to say they are also available through my Artfire on-line store).

Oh yes, I am in another beautiful Etsy treasury called My Fairy Tale. Lots of peacock colors & dreamy elements in this one! The curator is Nangijalajewelry.

Pumpkin Faerie

(note: copyright watermarks do not appear in actual product;
you may have to click on image to get the full effect)

A pumpkin faerie, just in time for autumn! The original is 14" x 18.25" and watercolor and ink. I am selling these as prints in ye olde online store.

This one took a long time. Since mid August! Interrupting my progress was a huge harvest, putting food by for the winter, a gig in Bolton Landing, applying for grant funded gigs, entering a juried show at Lower Adirondack Regional Arts Center (which I still haven't heard back from), painting frames (for a gallery exhibit) and painting more OSWOAs.

edited on 12/16/11 to add that I also have her available in my Artfire on-line store which at this point has a much larger selection than my Etsy shop.

Acorn

I can't seem to resist putting everything in a circle. Must be I'm still a potter in heart, mind and soul. And perhaps the symmetry is also akin to being a musician where the sound on an acoustic instrument often comes out of a hole. Hmmm...

Anyway, this painting is another OSWOA (an original painting, 4" x 6"). It is up in ye olde on-line store. (edit on 12/16/11: I have since started up an Artfire shop and there is a larger selection there than at Etsy).

I was painting OSWOAs this summer as a distraction from large projects, heat and high humidity but now they are becoming irresistable. It is a bit like throwing small bowls and tea bowls and putting decorations on the rims (which I did for 25 years and aim to do again once I get all of my current 2-d projects done... might be at least a year...).

Small bowls were good to make because it meant getting the kiln stuffed to capacity, i.e. fitting inbetween the larger pieces & not wasting room. I don't know what my excuse for making OSWOAs is, but I'll find one!

Oak Tree in Autumn II, original oswoa painting

I thought I was all done with oswoas, but the weather got hot again and I was once again inspired. For those of you new to my blog, an oswoa is an original work of art that is 4" x 6".

It started out as just an ink drawing with sepia ink. Then I decided to add watercolor. I thought at one point that it was a disaster, but then it seemed to come together with the dark blue background.

It's always a challange for me to paint so small!

Oak Tree in Autumn, art tags

This is my latest. The design was taken from my most recent ACEO painting (I widened the border a bit to square it off). It is available for the first time in ye olde on-line shop (Etsy on-line shop)!

Note: edited on 12/16/11 to say that I also have an Artfire shop with a lot more product in it presently than my Etsy shop. Also at Artfire you don't have to sign up as a member to buy. If you are interested, click here to be taken to my Artfire on-line store.

Autumn Tree ACEO

This is my latest attempt at painting an ACEO (my 4th try). An ACEO is a mini work of art at 2.5" x 3.5". As stated before, I am not entirely comfortable about painting anything smaller than a 4" x 6" painting, but I enjoy a challange and I thought I'd try one with my usual border (which made painting the tiny tree that much more painstaking!).

The designing took much longer than I expected for such a mini piece. It is part of a series I have been making about trees with knotted borders and knotted roots.

This is for sale (for the meantime) in my Etsy shop. (note: edit on 12/16/11: this piece is presently available in my Artfire shop, but can be requested in my Etsy shop if you have an account on Etsy -- Artfire has a guest check-out, so no need to have an account).

More mini paintings coming soon.

Autumn Tree with Knotted Roots and Knotted Border and Tree with Heart

This is the latest in the series of Celtic inspired art (particularly knotted trees with knotted borders). The Spring version is on this blog post.

At present, I have this up in my Etsy store as archival limited edition prints, but I will probably add greeting cards and tags in this design at some point. (edit on 12/16/11: it is also available through my Artfire on-line store where you don't have to be a member to buy and where I presently have the largest selection of my art).

The next piece is an original painting which is also presently for sale on Etsy. It is almost ACEO size (just a half inch wider in both directions). Which means: it is a 3" by 4" painting. It looks much better in real life (it has a crispness that you just can't get with a monitor).

Oh, yes, I am also in an Etsy treasury celebrating May Babies (of which I am one... or used to be when I was younger!). The treasury was curated by DiemDesignsJewelry.

Pawn in Autumn and A Raven in Autumn

Note: the copyright watermarks do not appear in the actual art (needed for on-line display only).

This is my newest design and was finished & scanned today. The design measures 12" x 16 1/2 ".

The reason for the two titles is that the prints will be named "Pawn in Autumn" and the greeting cards will be named "A Raven in Autumn." I thought it was best to decipher the two as I have found customers of greeting cards not understanding the reference to "pawn" outside of its context. The prints are more likely to be shown together with their kind and thus will be clearer as to what the theme means.

For those of you not in the know, the pawn relates to chess. In chess, any being that is not a king, queen, bishop, knight or rook is a pawn. This one is obviously a pet pawn because of its collar.

I probably won't have the greeting cards printed this autumn (as autumn is nearly done, at least around here), but I am hoping to have some prints of it for the upcoming holiday shows.

I may not have any new designs for awhile as I prepare for these shows. On the other hand, it is likely that I will post pieces that have never been seen or scanned before.
