This is an off-shoot of butterfly boxes I have been painting. It is done on pine with artist grade acrylic paints and is a small painting.

The butterfly symbolizes transformation, profound changes of the soul (evolution), pure spirit, joy, uplifting grace

The knot symbolizes beginnings and endings (and ever-more beginnings and endings) in a timeless way. In ancient times, Celtic knots were given to ward off sickness or setbacks (and in the end, for longevity). 

In this painting, the transformation and joyous nature of the butterfly is synchronized with infinity. The transformation of the butterfly is also protected from sickness and setbacks.

I think I may have painted this about my own life at this time! I pass this spiritually potent meaning onto the next owner.

I had these greeting cards out in brick and mortar stores in the autumn; it is now December and I just got them listed on-line. Better late than never! 

This is my attempt at a Celtic knot. More of my attempts can be viewed HERE. I like incorporating a bit of painterly aspects to the general knot (i.e., not just line drawings filled in with color). 

Can be used for Samhain or someone born in the Autumn.

I also made some round tags with this design. More soon (I hope).

It is with great pleasure that I introduce you to Becky! Becky has a lot of different kinds of jewelry designs in her Etsy shop, but I am focusing on her jewelry which has a Celtic or Renaissance/Medieval flair for those of my readers who are Renaissance Faire re-enactors or Renaissance musicians (of which I am one). The reason why Becky's shop is called "Seventh Child" is an interesting one. Please read on (borrowed from her profile page in her Etsy shop):

I am the seventh of seven children and was born on the seventh day (Sunday) at seven in the morning weighing seven pounds seven ounces(really, it's on my birth certificate). It was shear coincidence that all four of my names wound up with seven letters each, but, still, it happened. Hence "Seventh Child".

I love that story!

This is part of a series of Celtic-style Tree of Life images I have been making for several years. This one is the first in India ink. 

If you have been following along on this blog since my last post HERE, then you'll know that I have not made any art since I became ill (on May 22). I tend to produce ACEOs when I want to experiment with a new style or when I'm unsure about a direction I want to pursue or when I'm lacking in energy (i.e. not feeling well enough to tackle a big project!).

I am woefully behind on listing my newest art! I actually made this design a month and it has been in a number of brick and mortar stores as greeting cards since the day after St. Patrick's Day.

Better late than never. As usual, the design was an excuse to make some more Celtic style borders (with other woodland themes, of course!).

This is up as a greeting card in my Etsy store and my Artfire shop (for a change!). I've been favoring Artfire lately for most listings, but this goes with what I am doing at Etsy as well.

The original piece is a whopping 13" x 17" (that's the image area).

I can't say why I drop projects so readily only to finish them up at a much later date. I get inspired by new ideas and then can't seem to wait to finish pieces I am working on. So many other projects like this waiting in the wings! Ugh.

Here is my latest attempt at another original painting ACEO. An ACEO is trading card size at only 2.5" x 3.5" (a challange especially because the tree inside the border is so tiny).

Autumn Tree ACEO

This is my latest attempt at painting an ACEO (my 4th try). An ACEO is a mini work of art at 2.5" x 3.5". As stated before, I am not entirely comfortable about painting anything smaller than a 4" x 6" painting, but I enjoy a challange and I thought I'd try one with my usual border (which made painting the tiny tree that much more painstaking!). 

The designing took much longer than I expected for such a mini piece. It is part of a series I have been making about trees with knotted borders and knotted roots.

Tree with Heart and Sun

This is one of my larger pieces (18" x 24"). I have it for sale as a limited edition print in an 8.5 x 11 in my ETSY shop right away. I can also make it in bigger sizes. Just convo me through my Etsy shop.

I will also be selling it framed at Valley Artisans Market in the very near future and matted (without a frame) at Lower Adirondack Regional Arts Center for their holiday art show (Nov - Dec in their Lapham Gallery).

Autumn Tree with Knotted Roots and Knotted Border and Tree with Heart

This is the latest in the series of Celtic inspired art (particularly knotted trees with knotted borders). The Spring version is on this blog post.

At present, I have this up in my Etsy store as archival limited edition prints, but I will probably add greeting cards and tags in this design at some point. (edit on 12/16/11: it is also available through my Artfire on-line store where you don't have to be a member to buy and where I presently have the largest selection of my art).

The next piece is an original painting which is also presently for sale on Etsy. It is almost ACEO size (just a half inch wider in both directions). Which means: it is a 3" by 4" painting. It looks much better in real life (it has a crispness that you just can't get with a monitor).

 

Oh, yes, I am also in an Etsy treasury celebrating May Babies (of which I am one... or used to be when I was younger!). The treasury was curated by DiemDesignsJewelry.
