"Bunny Nest with Red Flowers and White Butterflies", new from my studio

This is part of a series of bunnies taking naps.

For this one, I had in mind a child's room. The parents are trying to get their little one off to sleep and point to the bunny on the wall: "See how that bunny is sleeping and smiling because he is having a happy dream?" Hint, hint ...

These parents don't really like the usual decor of bright neon colors that a lot of children's rooms have. They want something more subtle, more in the tradition of the Renaissance, or older English illustrations for children's books. So they pick this piece for their child's room.

Or this piece because it's even more subtle:

I tend to think people are attracted to artwork sometimes through the symbolism (subconsciously), and this piece has a lot of positives in that department:

* white bunny: new perceptions and manifestations; signifies something at work for the highest good
* white butterflies: protection, fortune, messages from the spirit world
* vines: continuity, traditions in ones life
* red tulip-like flowers with thorns: true love, eternal love, undying love, yet with a few protective measures
* small yellow flowers: happiness in the small things, friendship
* purple daisies: dignity, pride, success
* bountiful fauna: material well being

Flower Fairies in a Flower Mobile

"Flower Fairies in a Flower Mobile"
© 2017
available for sale HERE (includes prints, home decor, shirts, totes and other products)

When you work for a fantasy artist's group, it is hard not to be inspired! I write for a fantasy art blog HERE and administer the group HERE.

This is kind of out of the realm of art I make these days (I have been working hard on a series of paintings, which still count as fantasy art, but aren't like this piece), but I always enjoy branching out and having diversions. It makes me a better artist.

Anyway, this is a piece made entirely from my own photos. It is basically a photo collage. These two little girls were at a street fair. The background with the bunny is practically in my backyard (yes, there are an overwhelming number of bunnies around here, and they have attracted some eagles, a rarity in these parts). And then the flowers range from gardens in Maine to upstate New York. The wings are my own creation.

Here is the general description of this listing:

Two little girl fairies with blonde hair are in a flower mobile. In the background is a rabbit chewing on something good to eat, completely unperturbed by the fairies. There are also some fairy orbs and additional flowers in the background. On the top of the fairy mobile is a big orange butterfly.

This listing includes tee shirts, greeting cards, mugs, pillows and bed covers in this design.

Might look great in a child's room, nursery, playroom or patio.

Symbolism:
* fairies: a legendary or supernatural nature spirit from Europe. Fairies have wings in many varieties, and are typically found with light orbs. According to Wikipedia: "The word 'fairy' was used to represent an illusion, or enchantment; the land of the Faes; collectively the inhabitants thereof; or an individual such as a fairy knight." Magic, enchantment, a deep connection with the natural world and the spiritual world.
* rabbit: fertility, the feminine, abundance, luck, comfort, vulnerability
* purple flowers: dignity, success, spirit
* pink flowers: happiness, love
* orange flowers: heartfelt sincerity
* white flowers: modesty, innocence, spiritual
* yellow flowers: joy, light-heartedness, happiness
* butterfly: transformation, change, the spirit

Millefleurs Triptych with Unicorn, Cranes, Rabbits and Dove

Name of art piece: "Millefleurs Triptych with Unicorn, Cranes, Rabbits and Dove"
size: 13" x 10" on 14" x 11" paper
printed on archival paper
artwork © 2014 by Lise Winne
AVAILABLE THROUGH MY ARTFIRE ON-LINE SHOP HERE

Note: the copyright watermark does not appear in any purchased versions of this print.

This piece is a Renaissance-inspired artwork and inspired by (and in the tradition of) the Renaissance Unicorn tapestries. Here is one instance of one of the pieces done during the Renaissance.

This print is also available in a framed version at Valley Artisans Market. The original is going to be hung in a new gallery I was admitted into. More information on that coming soon. If you have an Etsy account, it may be available there as well, though I am featuring rotating themes, and there is less likelihood of it being there than in my Artfire shop (which has the advantage of a guest check-out if you don't want to join as an Artfire patron).

Symbolism:
The crane is a symbol for longevity, a youthful appearance, a happy and successful marriage as well as an omen of protection.
The unicorn is a symbol for purity, the mystical and divine, the spiritual, healing sorrows of the heart, healing toxicities in the body and banishing poisons in ones life whether they be emotional, spiritual or physical.
Rabbits are a symbol of femininity, abundance and luck. They are also a symbol of fear (of tragedy and disaster).
The dove is a symbol of peace, hope and messages from the spirit. They sometimes refer to pacifism and passive resistance too.

Here are some of the details of the piece:

Bunny and Moon ACEOs

"Bunny and Moon" original painting ACEO (2.5" x 3.5")

here is another aceo:

available in my Etsy shop in the ACEO section

As stated, these are both original paintings and will probably be the only ACEOs made in this subject matter. They are incredibly fussy and require tiny "liner" brushes. We'll see...

ACEOs have to conform to the 2.5" x 3.5" size format. For more on ACEOs, see this wikipedia article HERE.

These are part of a series of "bunny and moon" art pieces. The whole series can be found HERE.

They are painted with acrylic paints (gesso first, then the acrylic paints, then polyurethane). These particular ones were painted on bristol board.

Bunny and Gate with Moon

Bunny and Gate with Moon
© 2012
available at my Artfire and Etsy shops

Newest design!

After doing blogposts about bunnies (and drawing "Bunny and Moon"), I became drawn to the subject again when I did this artwork.

The difference now is that I did some research and found that rabbits and the moon are a symbol world-wide for lunar cycles, feminity and fertility! How cool is it that so many different time periods and cultures associated the rabbit and the moon with the same meaning?

I don't know why I am so drawn to the subject now. Perhaps this is a time when I need to focus my attention on my own femininity and lunar cycles and my subconscious is telling me that? Who knows!

Anyway, for the first time on this blog, I am showing some in-progress photos:

Bunny Inside Egg, new Easter design

"Bunny Inside Egg"
new Easter card design
© 2012

Sometimes after I draw things, they take on a new meaning, become alive in my mind, sometimes entering my consciousness for days afterward. After I drew the "Bunny and Moon" tag design (viewable HERE on my blog), I've been waking up in the middle of the night for months dreaming about a bunny coming out behind the brush to look at the moon and wondering what it is!

Am I the only one who goes through this?

I don't know what to say about this beyond what I've said except I am reminded that there are other living beings sharing the same planet, looking at the same moon. It's not a wholly human world we live in and I am grateful for that. Bunnies are particularly innocent creatures, wonderfully soft and picked on by carnivores. In this phase of my art career, I have become entranced by them, so the newest bunny above is not just about Easter; it was an excuse to create another rabbit.

The card design is available year-round in my Artfire shop and seasonally through my Etsy shop

Easter gift tags, Bunny in Spring

Bunny in Spring
gift tags

I love making gift tag designs, though I'm not entirely thrilled with having to cut them out and ribbon them. I designed these to go with how the tags are cut via the cutter. These are fairly large tags (4.5" x 2.75"). I have them in my Artfire shop through this link and they are also available through some of my brick and mortar stores in my area (find them through this link).

On another note, Kitty Ballistics featured one of my cards on her blog. Have a look at her blog through this link.

Fuchsia Egg with Bunny

© 2011

This is probably the last Easter design of the year and is available through my Artfire on-line shop in packages of 3 cards each (it can be ordered in different quantities; just read the directions on the listing description).

The original design is 10.5" x 15" and I have saved it in this size just in case someone wants a full print of it.

I have a lot of easter designs in stock where rabbits have full features, so I decided that this one could be featureless, like a flash of lightening leaping across the suspended egg.

Egg with Two Bunnies

Egg with Two Bunnies

(copyright watermarks do not appear on actual greeting cards)

As a greeting card designer, I am always at least one holiday ahead. I have finished shamrocks for the year and this is the first in a series of new Easter designs (for this year).

Here is a close-up of one of the rabbits:

This design is actually a whopping 11" x 16" which I shrunk to greeting card size. But I retained the full size just in case anyone loves it as a print.

I have the greeting cards available in my Artfire shop through this link. I may also have it available through my Etsy shop in March or April (note: greeting cards in my Etsy shop are seasonal, so if you want a wide variety of cards to choose from, it is best to get them through my Artfire shop for the time being).

Celestial Bunnies and Celestial Egg

note: copyright watermarks do not appear on actual art

This is the newest Easter greeting card design. I completed painting it a week and a half ago, rushed it out to some of the galleries and shops I am in, and it's too late to put it in an on-line shop, so perhaps I will put it in next year. It's a sister to the Celestial Egg design I made last year, which I blogged about recently here.

The Unicorn and the Egg (and other Easter designs)

Continuing with my post from last time...

This is another older card design (from 2009). Have I said before that I like the olde Renaissance style unicorns more than the present-day horse unicorns who are more associated with acid drenched rainbows and mountain vistas than gardens and pretty Renaissance maidens? When I was around 13 years old, my mother pinned up prints of the Unicorn Tapestries (from the MOMA cloisters) in my room. Then my grandmother gave me a book about Renaissance era unicorns at Christmas shortly afterward. Who knows why they wanted to impress me with unicorns and millefleur (it wasn't something I sought out or asked for, in other words). Anyway, the art made an impression even after I grew up, left home and the prints disappeared. I always seemed to be thinking and dreaming about millefleur through the years, even when I was making big statement art in my twenties and thirties (which I don't show on the web at the present time since it is adult & I wouldn't want to confuse my fantasy-artist/ethereal-musician public image, at least not at present). Ornate tapestries from the era are the only pieces of art that can make me cry. I like millefleur even more now than then, as natural paradises are bulldozed and modern, hard edges take up every available visual space in every aspect of our lives.

Granted, this is a very unpopular niche to be in, especially in the art world. I am not a "serious artist" (and frankly surprised when this art was accepted by the jury at the Lower Adirondack Regional Arts Center for a show). Okay, I am not serious. And why should I be? My unicorn designs seem to appeal to 13 year olds and that seems fitting.

More Unicorns are here on my website.

Here is a close-up:

Giant eggs, eggs falling from the sky, celestial eggs & other assorted wacky Easter ideas are in some of the shops in my area as well as newly listed in my Etsy store here.

Bunny with Big Egg (Easter card design)

(note: copyright watermarks do not appear on image)

This is a card design I completed in 2009, but I am posting it today because I thought I should post something (it has been awhile & all of my present work has yet to be scanned).  I have the bunny for sale in a number of shops in my area and in my Etsy store here (or you can browse through all of my present card listings at Etsy here).

This design is from my original painting. The egg, sky, birds and rabbit were painted with watercolor paints while the grass and flowers were drawn with oil based colored pencils. The original design was a lot more colorful, but I decided to desaturate a version in the computer to make it look old and vintage, if slightly Renaissance in flavour. This is the desaturated version.

I have 6 new pieces to post as soon as I can find time to scan.
