original aceos of bunnies and butterflies, many with millefleurs

These are just a smattering of some original ACEOs I have been making (ACEOs are ultra-mini works of art that are 2.5 inches x 3.5 inches - some may be prints and some may be original paintings; mine are originals).

These are mostly on sale in galleries in my area (and I have been told that some have sold). I may have some on-line soon too. You can always check my shop.

These particular ones are matted in a 5" x 7" ivory colored mat with the proper ACEO opening. The backs are all signed with name of piece, medium, date and signature, and they all come with a certificate of authenticity.

ACEOs are very popular, a great way to own an affordable piece of art at a low price (I charge between $15 - $45 usually, especially matted) and if the artist gets famous, they are worth quite a bit more than your original investment.

I hope to have some other pieces to show you soon, more in the home decor line, but some are original paintings too.

I have been told that I should be on Instagram (oh, no, not another social media to post to; I already have too many!). I like blogging, Twitter, Google Plus (when it existed), and to a lesser degree the public Facebook (well maybe not so much these days), and I thought that was enough. What's next? Does everyone really spend that much time on all of these platforms, or do they have a favorite? And most of you work! Do you have to stay up all night to cruise it all and go to work groggy?

As I say, I'll be back soon.

Butterfly in the Millefleurs

Butterfly in the Millefleurs
2018
original 5" x 7" (in a gallery)
as a print, purchase HERE if interested

I have been painting a lot of butterflies as of late. Butterflies are about transformation and a big change. Sometimes they signify hope too. But hope is different from the former two attributes in that it is an emotion with a thought, and perhaps even an idea. In a way, all three parts work in tandem.

Jung believed in the symbolic relevance of animals, places, and things in dreaming and in inspirational states. I don't check on the symbolism usually until after I finish a piece, though I was aware of what the butterfly meant beforehand (it is because I paint them often).

Even so, when you dream of white butterflies at night and paint them during the day, something of significance is being churned in your mind.

In my dreams at night, the white butterflies are clustered on a plant, and there are so many that it is impossible to count them.

In my dream last night, many were both clustered, but even more were flying around the cluster in a big white whir, and I was sitting in the woods, trying to figure out why there were so many, and what was happening to make me dream so much about them.

During the day however, I paint just one of them, usually in the center of a piece.

White butterflies signify healing, release of one's burdens, absolution, purity and purity of intent, along with transformation.

Purple butterflies signify keeping the faith, confidence, assurance and resolve (also with transformation).

So there are both white butterflies going through my mind, and purple butterflies with a lot of white in them.

Does the butterfly fit with what I am going through in my life right now? Absolutely. Do I feel confident and full of resolve? Yes. Do I feel unburdened and absolved? Yes, especially in the way of justice and justification. Am I full of hope? Yes.

So, when you look at a piece, or you are attracted to a piece enough to buy it and put it on your wall, think about whether you can relate to the questions above.

The next two versions are meant to be used as tapestries, but for now they are sold as duvets, totes, pillows, and prints:

Unicorn with Red Roses and Butterflies

Unicorn with Red Roses and Butterflies
© 2018
available for sale HERE

I meant for this piece to be an addition to my fantasy art pieces (fantasy art and storybook art is what I am known for). It is meant to be tapestry-like, to mimic those from the Renaissance period.

This piece is in my shop on a variety of products including all manner of prints (canvas, paper, metal, framed and unframed), plus totes, pillows, mugs, tee shirts and other products. I thought I would give you a sense of what some of these products look like.

Here is what you can find in terms of framing (all of these framing options are available in my shop):

This one is under black frames in the drop-down: #SM2
Choose a mat too: this one is manor white

If you want to get fancy here is another idea:

Here is what the piece can look like on a wall (note: this one has a white mat instead of the red):

Here is what it looks like as a large coffee mug:

I tried playing around with various filters for a day to get a different version of this piece and I found that I could offer it in yellow too. The yellow version also comes with all of the various products:

That is it for now ...

I have been busy writing a book that features Renaissance faires, makes reference to Lord of the Rings, life as a musician, and even takes on the tough subject of bullying, abuse and sexual harassment in the midst of pursuing a life that is as peaceful as these unicorns, a life full of art and music.

I'll let you know when it comes out.

Until next time ... and thank you for reading ...

Flower Fairies in a Flower Mobile

"Flower Fairies in a Flower Mobile"
© 2017
available for sale HERE (includes prints, home decor, shirts, totes and other products)

When you work for a fantasy artist's group, it is hard not to be inspired! I write for a fantasy art blog HERE and administer the group HERE.

This is kind of out of the realm of art I make these days (I have been working hard on a series of paintings, which still count as fantasy art, but aren't like this piece), but I always enjoy branching out and having diversions. It makes me a better artist.

Anyway, this is a piece made entirely from my own photos. It is basically a photo collage. These two little girls were at a street fair. The background with the bunny is practically in my backyard (yes, there are an overwhelming number of bunnies around here, and they have attracted some eagles, a rarity in these parts). And then the flowers range from gardens in Maine to upstate New York. The wings are my own creation.

Here is the general description of this listing:

Two little girl fairies with blonde hair are in a flower mobile. In the background is a rabbit chewing on something good to eat, completely unperturbed by the fairies. There are also some fairy orbs and additional flowers in the background. On the top of the fairy mobile is a big orange butterfly.

This listing includes tee shirts, greeting cards, mugs, pillows and bed covers in this design.

Might look great in a child's room, nursery, playroom or patio.

Symbolism:
* fairies: a legendary or supernatural nature spirit from Europe. Fairies have wings in many varieties, and are typically found with light orbs. According to Wikipedia: "The word 'fairy' was used to represent an illusion, or enchantment; the land of the Faes; collectively the inhabitants thereof; or an individual such as a fairy knight." Magic, enchantment, a deep connection with the natural world and the spiritual world.
* rabbit: fertility, the feminine, abundance, luck, comfort, vulnerability
* purple flowers: dignity, success, spirit
* pink flowers: happiness, love
* orange flowers: heartfelt sincerity
* white flowers: modesty, innocence, spiritual
* yellow flowers: joy, light-heartedness, happiness
* butterfly: transformation, change, the spirit

Fairy Queue

Fairy Queue
© 2016
available for sale as a print (in a multitude of sizes), and as home decor and other products through this link at LISE WINNE.NET
or available for sale as a 11 x 14 hand signed giclee print HERE

If you have been following along, I started a series featuring altered photographs. The last one was "A Dragon Confides in a Fairy" (viewable HERE). In this piece, I feature a procession of fairies with flowers, a butterfly  and fairy orbs.

Here are some details of the piece:

detail: at the back of the queue

detail from the middle of the queue

detail from the beginning of the queue
(notice how their clothing is adorned with butterflies)

Here are just a few framing options that you can customize through LiseWinne.net (many more combinations are available, but these are some samples):

gold frame with mist mat

green frame with snow white mat

beige frame (plc8) with mist mat

 purple frame with purple mat

This is the original photograph that it came from. It was a windy day, which is why the hair is flying and the Wizard's cape is blowing back. You can tell I changed a lot including clothing colors, putting wings and pointy ears on the figures, taking the glasses off of another figure, and putting them in a different background with all things associated with a tiny fairies (big flowers, large butterfly, orbs, nature):

If you are new to my blog, this is the second in the series. The first was actually a small painting that looks a lot like this one, though with a more intense cobalt blue. You can see the other one HERE.

Or view most of my butterfly boxes HERE.

Celtic Knot Border with Butterfly

Celtic Border with Butterfly
a 4.75" x 7" painting
© 2014
for sale in my Artfire on-line shop HERE

This is an off-shoot of butterfly boxes I have been painting. It is done on pine with artist grade acrylic paints and is a small painting.

The butterfly symbolizes transformation, profound changes of the soul (evolution), pure spirit, joy, uplifting grace

The knot symbolizes beginnings and endings (and ever-more beginnings and endings) in a timeless way. In ancient times, Celtic knots were given to ward off sickness or setbacks (and in the end, for longevity).

In this painting, the transformation and joyous nature of the butterfly is synchronized with infinity. The transformation of the butterfly is also protected from sickness and setbacks.

I think I may have painted this about my own life at this time! I pass this spiritually potent meaning onto the next owner.

or it may be available HERE from Etsy shop

This is the only butterfly box I painted in 2012.

hand painted trinket or jewelry box, one of a kind (4th in the series of 4)
4.75" long x 2.75" in width and 1.5" in depth (i.e. 12.065 cm long, 6.985 cm in width and 3.81 cm deep)

There is only one, but I am listing it in two shops and hope that no one buys them at the same day, hour and minute. It can be purchased through my Artfire on-line shop through THIS LINK  or through my Etsy on-line shop through THIS LINK.

This is the final butterfly box in the series with this particular template. I like it the most out of the series (I just feel it is more refined than the others).

As stated above, this is the third in the series (the rest of the series in HERE). Even though I used the same template, you can see that I changed the right butterfly so that it has stripes in its wings instead of the amorphous colors in the previous two boxes. I like it a lot more.

It struck me that I should have just blogged about all 4 boxes instead of listing them here one at a time. So, in the future I will do that, though most of the other boxes I'll be listing just have a one of a kind design.

I will list another butterfly box tomorrow and then begin listing other designs.

This box was actually the first one that I painted in the series (even though I listed the mint one first -- the mint one can be viewed HERE and was actually the second one in the series ... or if you want to see the whole series, you can see all four HERE -- when I have them all listed, of course).

The right butterfly has a little less bright yellow in it than I put in the mint green box. I used the same template for all four boxes, but for the first two boxes, I wasn't entirely happy with the right butterfly, so you'll see that it changes for the last two boxes.

These four boxes will be the only ones I'll make with this template. In fact, I don't know if I'll paint any more boxes. I enjoy them, but I have many more ambitious projects I would like to accomplish. I painted these at a time when I was just happy to have a real studio, with its own running water and cupboards, a big work table (i.e. not my dining room table) and room to move around. I went a little crazy painting everything in sight, including things for my own house. Some day, perhaps I'll show you some of those too, but for now, I have a lot of boxes to list.

I painted a lot of trinket boxes in the winter of 2011. I had always meant to list them in one or both of my on-line stores, but never got around to it (as you might be able to tell, I enjoy painting and making things a lot, lot more than photographing and listing them). Better late than never, yes?

These are hand-painted (not decoupage or decals), so they are painstaking (and also cost a bit more because of that). They are coated on all sides (including the inside) with a layer of glossy polyurethane.

I'll try to list as many of these as I can in the next few days as I also have a backlog of greeting card designs to show you too.

Sepia Butterfly, art gift and product tags

I took my latest ink drawing (which is on this blog post) and made some tag art. My newest for sale in the olde shop (Etsy on-line store)!

Note: edited on 12/16/11 to say that I also have an Artfire shop with a lot more product in it presently than my Etsy shop. Also at Artfire you don't have to sign up as a member to buy. If you are interested, click here to be taken to my Artfire on-line store.

Sepia Butterfly with Border, oswoa

This is my latest oswoa. Oswoa stands for "Original Small Works Of Art". All oswoas must be 4" x 6" to qualify.

This one was done with sepia ink on bristol board. It reminds me most of carving pottery (which is what I used to do).

I am much more comfortable with the oswoa than the aceo (2.5" x 3.5"). The aceo is just so tiny and with one little distraction, the composition can falter easily. But I am determined to keep trying!
I have this one for sale at the moment in my Etsy shop, but may take it to a gallery at some point if it doesn't sell at Etsy and I get a theme going.

Angel Carrie Celebrates Life

note: copyright watermarks do not appear in actual piece.

I have a lot of new work to post, but in the meantime I am posting this older piece because I started to make some smaller prints of her.

She is part of a limited edition of 95.

The big 18" x 24" prints have been popular and make a bigger impact (especially when viewing in person as opposed to on-line), but I thought I'd try some smaller ones too at the end of the run of 95.

The smaller prints are up for sale for the first time at my Etsy on-line store (12/16/11 edit: they are also available at my Artfire on-line store).
